6 Secrets for Audience Engagement – Part 1 of 3

Video is an essential part of the marketing strategy for any business or organization. 85% of all internet users in the United States watched online video content monthly on any of their devices (Statista, 2018). Online video content is becoming increasingly popular especially with 25-34 year olds. Videos are not simply for entertainment anymore. They are used to inform, educate, demonstrate, and influence viewers to act or make decisions based on the content they are viewing.

In this three-part blog series, I’m going to share with you some important tricks for maintaining a high level of engagement with your audience so they’re excited to learn more about you.

  1. Grab Their Attention Quickly

The first 10 seconds of your video are crucial for capturing audience attention. In short, they want to connect with your video immediately and if they don’t see something engaging right away they’ll lose interest and find something more compelling to watch. With the increased number of videos that are available online you want yours to stand out right away. Establishing your brand with a powerful image or posing an intriguing question are two great ways to begin. Don’t start your video in a way that’s too familiar or traditional. Viewers will quickly lose interest and make an immediate opinion instead of wanting to learn more.

  1. Storytelling 101

Your story is the foundation of your organization. It’s the reason people want to get to know more about you and what you can provide for them. It becomes the outline of your script when using video as a part of your marketing strategy. Effective storytelling means establishing an emotional response and engaging the audience’s curiosity. If your story is shared effectively, you will be able to convince people that the products you’re providing will help them significantly. As part of that story you’re sharing the value of what you provide without trying to sell it too hard. Let them see it and hear it for themselves so that they become eager to learn more. The hard sell is a turn off and they’ll likely stop watching your video.
